At NIHS Brabant - Jewish Community Eindhoven, we are here for you during times of loss. If there is unfortunately a death in your family, we offer spiritual and practical support. Rabbi Simcha Steinberg can perform prayers before the passing, including the 'Viduy' (Confession prayer) and 'Shema Yisrael' (Declaration of Faith).

For reporting the death, please contact the Joods Begrafeniswezen (Jewish Burial Authority). They will take charge of the funeral, the Lewaja. After the burial at one of the Jewish cemeteries, the mourning week, the Sjiwwe, begins, during which specific traditions and regulations apply. During this period, you can rely on practical and spiritual support from the Joodse Gemeente. If desired, Rabbi Simcha Steinberg can make a home visit, and community members can attend prayer services at your home.

Other aspects of the mourning week and the subsequent period include reciting the Kaddish prayer, the unveiling of the tombstone (Matsewa), and the commemoration of the anniversary of the death (Jaartijd). The Joodse Gemeente is ready to provide advice and assistance.
